N scale Buildings

I have been researching a variety of manufacturers. Many of these building kits were designed by Pola in West Germany, in the 1950s. Others were designed by the Atlas Tool Company, in New Jersey early in the 1960s.

Many farmed out to various plastic manufacturing facilities in West Germany, such as AHM and Aurora, which gave them the availabillity to offer Pola, Atlas, and Faller designs.

Faller is another designer / manufacturer that has popular European design building kits. With Heljan, one of the largest in Denmark, designing many more industrial buildings. Many of the designs were similar to buildings in the US, although the company names needed to be changed from the German ones. Kibri is a more recent addition to the manufacturers, and New Jersey International has acquired some of the old molds.

Kato is the largest manufacturer in Japan. Some of their kits seemed to be derived from the older manufacturers, although most are more Asian influenced. Tomix and Green Max also have mostly Asian influenced designs.

Most Life-Like kits had no numbers at the begining. Later the building numbers were in the 7400s. Faller has done a similar 'numbers changing as time goes by', as has Bachmann.
